Coming Attractions: Summer Homework

The paperprosody droogs are hard at work on literary juice of the FAVORITES variety. The ppd gang are passionate (sometimes too passionate) about their favorite reads, and the #1 request as of late has been for solid 20th-century beach-read recommendations. When we say “beach read,” we don’t mean any old Fifty Shades of Mass Market Paperback Bullshit. We mean down & dirty amazing literature, tragic endings and all, according to the overconfident Chicago/New York/Madison/Providence/Milwaukee hipster types. (Are there hipsters in Milwaukee?)

You know we like to bring something different to the dinner table, so the only criteria is that the title selection must be from 1900 – 1999 and cannot include the usual suspects (i.e. the triad: Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby, To Kill A Mockingbird).

So between Memorial Day and Labor Day, keep an eye out for mind-blowing analyses of the droogies’ favorite 20th-century books. On deck are such gems as White NoiseHousekeeping, The Natural, Midnight’s Children, McCarthy’s Border Trilogy, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and The Shipping News.

(For the record, Ellie James’s request to analyze Sir Gawain and the Green Knight has been ignored. Someone get this girl a calendar.)
